Matt and I woke up early and exited the only hotel in town by 8am. We figured we’d get an early start to beat the Sunday church traffic.
There was a large hill up ahead past Veblen with an option to go a bit North to go around it, so we took it! We crossed over into North Dakota. After many miles of gravel roads, corn fields, soybeans, hay fields and headwinds we crossed back into South Dakota.
Traffic was sparse throughout the day. We may have been passed by 30 cars in the 48 miles we pedaled today. We pressed into the wind most of the day. We finally arrived into Britton, SD late in the afternoon. Matt checked us into the first hotel he saw. We were all wind blown and spent. Shelter, showers, rest and pizza was on the agenda tonight.

Those bikes are loaded down! Looks like you are having fun.
They are but we cull our gear every week or so and send stuff home or donate it. This is what’s in them…1 1/2 front panniers have our food aka the pantry panniers and the 1/2 with other supplies such as baby wipes, bike tubes, tools and medicine. Ice mule on front rack…ice, butter, cheese, yogurt, meat, cold coffee. Rear panniers 1 clothes, toiletries and a sheet (covers the air mattresses when we use the tent) The other rear pannier hammock, rain fly, wubby, under quilt, air mattress, pillow, straps and travel scrabble game. Top bag random stuff: toilet paper, medical supplies, paracord, chargers etc. Feed bags aka climbers chalk bags, head lamp, Leatherman, snacks, click stand, battery pack, jbl speaker, chapstick, sunscreen. Oh and the unicorn Rosie Sparkle Farts!
